Meghan Haney: Marble Valley Farm

The following are the local farm suppliers for the Plow to Plate® food service at New Milford Hospital

Marble Valley Farm, Kent, CT - Megan Haney

meghan haney

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Megan Haney, farmer at Marble Valley Farm in Kent, CT unexpectedly began her farming career in northern CA in her early twenties.  Volunteering for a large, organic farm and also working as a research associate for a small think tank intent on ending world hunger and creating a model of global sustainable development, Megan realized that she was more attracted to working with farmers on a small, grassroots level than to writing papers on how their work did or did not contribute to world hunger.  So, Megan made the only logical next step; she went to farm school in Santa Cruz to become a farmer.

Megan made her way back East having had plenty of experience working on farms in the US and internationally.  After settling in CT, Megan worked her way North to Kent and the Kent Land Trust which was the perfect fit for organic vegetable production.

The Land Trust has proven to be an invaluable resource for Marble Valley Farm, while also being committed to the farm's success in the years to come.  Currently, Marble Valley Farm provides Plow to Plate® a colorful assortment of organic vegetables, including; sugar snap peas, swiss chard, kale, escarole, endive, head lettuce, beets, squash, tomatoes, arugula, mizuna, mustard greens, hot peppers, celery root, diakon, winter squash, and edible pumpkin.

Hospital food is supposed to be healthy.  Being part of an organization that believes in promoting health with local, fresh food is a philosophy that Megan personifies and feels is vital to the well being of the community.  According to Megan, "food is the first medicine."  Megan is committed to supplying her organic, fresh vegetables to the hospital in the coming years in greater variety and frequency.
